Is Wix good enough for a roofing company?

Wix is genuinely good at what it does: a roofing company owner with a free weekend can produce a presentable, mobile-friendly site without help, and hosting, security and a custom domain come with the plan. The two things to go in with your eyes open about are that the maintenance stays with you forever, and that a Wix site lives on Wix, because Wix states plainly that its architecture does not support hosting a Wix site anywhere else.

The case for Wix is a real one

For a roofing company that has no website at all, the gap between nothing and a tidy Wix site is enormous, and the gap between a tidy Wix site and a custom-built one is much smaller than any agency will tell you. If the choice in front of you is Wix this month or a proper site some day, build the Wix site. Something indexed beats nothing planned.

Where roofing sites hit the ceiling

The ceiling is rarely visual. It is that a roofing company covering nine towns needs roughly nine town pages plus a page per service, and building thirty pages in a drag-and-drop editor, then keeping them accurate as the business changes, is a job. It gets started, it gets half done, and the site ends up with three good pages and six abandoned ones, which is worse than five good ones.

The part worth reading before you commit

Wix is clear in its own help centre that you cannot take a Wix site and host it elsewhere: the platform runs on proprietary technology and relies on Wix services to operate. Wix also states that the content you build belongs to you. Both things are true at once, and the practical meaning for a roofing company is that moving later means rebuilding, not exporting.

Checked, not assumed

What Wix publishes about itself

Every line below was read on their own site or documentation on the date shown. We do not publish a competitor fact we cannot point at.

  • Wix states that a Wix site needs to be hosted and operated on Wix servers, that you cannot use another host for a Wix site because the architecture does not support external hosting, and that the content you build on Wix belongs to you.

Exporting or embedding your Wix site elsewhereWix Help Center, checked September 21, 2026

  • Wix publishes tiered premium plans with storage, collaborator and commerce limits per tier, all including a custom domain, hosting and support, with the displayed prices covering yearly subscriptions paid in full.

  • Wix states that it hosts sites on a global content delivery network that directs visitors to their closest server. Wix publishes an uptime figure, though the number stated differs between its pricing page and its help centre, so we do not quote one here.

Their case

When Wix is the right answer for a roofer

We would say this on a call rather than talk someone into a plan they do not need.

  • You are starting out, covering one or two towns, and cash matters more than time this year.
  • You enjoy this sort of thing and will genuinely keep it current. That willingness is worth more than any feature list.
  • You need something live this weekend, not in a fortnight.
  • Your business is simple enough that five or six pages covers it honestly, and pretending otherwise would just be more pages to neglect.

Our case

When paying somebody else is the better trade

It usually comes down to how many pages the business honestly needs, and who is going to look after them.

  • You cover enough towns that the page count is now a project rather than an afternoon.
  • You want content published every week without anyone at your company writing it.
  • You want performance as a written guarantee because you are spending money on ads.
  • You would rather the site never again be the thing you feel guilty about not updating.
Not always either-or

There is no both here, and that is worth saying

Unlike the platform comparisons, this one is genuinely either-or: you are not going to run a Wix site and a managed site at the same domain. What we can do is make the transition non-destructive if and when you decide.

From roofing companies we have built for

  • Andrea Copperfield

Survey bookings administrator, warehouse roofing and cladding contractor

Getting the commercial roof assessments wording right mattered more to us than any visual choice. It explains what an inquiry achieves and is honest about what still needs a proper discussion. Customers arrive with realistic expectations, which changes the whole tone of the first call.

    Manchester, New Hampshire

Service scope and expectations for commercial roof assessments

  • Pooja Patil

Commercial contracts coordinator, commercial flat roofing contractor

We have more than one contact point, and the old commercial roof assessments page never said which applied where. The visitor picks their location once, and it follows the message all the way to the reply. Simpler for visitors, and much simpler for whoever covers the phone.

    Omaha, Nebraska

Location information and contact routing for commercial roof assessments

  • Daphne Hemsley

Business manager, multi-site commercial roof maintenance company

The old commercial roof assessments address sits in hundreds of our sent messages; breaking it was not an option. They inventoried the old addresses and walked us through where each one would redirect. I could share the new site knowing the old links had been taken seriously.

    Green Bay, Wisconsin

The practical part

Moving off Wix

  1. Send us the site address. We list every public URL, including blog posts, before anything is designed.
  2. At onboarding we agree the page plan: which services get pages, which towns you actually serve, what gets retired.
  3. We build the new site and set a permanent redirect from every old URL to its new equivalent.
  4. You point the domain when you are happy with the build. The Wix subscription can be cancelled after, not before.

Questions about Wix and a managed site

Can I move my Wix site to another host?

No. Wix states in its own help centre that a Wix site has to be hosted and operated on Wix servers, and that external hosting is not supported because the platform relies on Wix proprietary technology. Wix does say the content you build belongs to you, so a move means rebuilding rather than exporting.

Is Wix bad for SEO?

Not inherently. Wix provides SEO controls and a global content delivery network. Roofing sites on Wix usually underperform for a structural reason rather than a platform one: too few pages, no town coverage and nothing published after launch month.

Is Wix cheaper than your plans?

The subscription is, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The comparison that matters is what you are buying: Wix sells you software and you supply the labour, we sell you the finished thing plus the labour every month.

Can you build on Wix for me?

No. Every site we build is custom coded and hosted on our own stack, which is how we can guarantee the speed. Building inside a third-party builder would mean guaranteeing something we do not control.

What happens to my Wix blog posts?

The ones worth keeping are migrated and their URLs redirected, so links and indexed pages still resolve. We will tell you honestly which posts are earning their place and which are not.

How long does moving take?

Launch is 7 to 15 days from onboarding depending on plan, and the redirects are in place before the domain is pointed. You do not need to cancel Wix until the new site is live and you are happy with it.

Will my site look worse without the templates?

It will look like your business rather than like a template. Design is built around your brand at onboarding, and design changes after launch are revisions like any other, with five included every month.

I already have a Wix site that ranks. Should I move?

Not automatically. If it ranks, converts and someone is keeping it current, the honest advice is to leave it alone and spend the money somewhere that is actually broken. Come back when the page count or the upkeep becomes the bottleneck.
