Squarespace or a managed roofing website: polish against structure
Squarespace will make a roofing company look more professional than most of its local competitors within a day, and that is a real advantage in a trade where a lot of sites look like they were made in 2011. What it does not do is decide that you need eleven town pages and five service pages, write them, publish articles weekly, or take responsibility for the site being current in March. Those are the reasons roofing companies eventually move.
Design is the genuine strength, and it matters here
Roofing is a trust purchase made by a homeowner letting strangers onto their property. A site that looks considered does real work, and Squarespace gets a business to "looks considered" faster than almost anything else. We take design seriously enough to admit when someone else has made it easy.
Structure is where roofing sites are won
Local roofing search rewards a specific shape: a page for each service, a page for each place, each one with something genuinely local on it. That is a content and information-architecture problem, and no template solves it. It is why a plain-looking site with thirty well-built pages routinely out-earns a beautiful five-page one.
The two things worth reading before you commit
Custom code is not on every plan: Squarespace documents code injection as available from its Core tier upward, and warns that its support team cannot help you add custom code or troubleshoot what it breaks. And the export is limited: Squarespace states plainly that not everything exports, and names page types, custom CSS and style settings among what does not.
What Squarespace publishes about itself
Every line below was read on their own site or documentation on the date shown. We do not publish a competitor fact we cannot point at.
Squarespace publishes monthly and annual pricing across Basic, Core, Plus and Advanced tiers, with a free custom domain for one year on an annual term and hosting included.

Squarespace documents that code injection is available on Core, Plus, Advanced and some legacy plans, and states that its support team cannot help you add custom code to your site or troubleshoot issues arising from it.

Squarespace states that not everything exports from a site, because many features rely on its own JavaScript and CSS, and names index, portfolio, cover, album, info and store pages, custom CSS and style settings among the things that will not export. It also states that content exported from one Squarespace site cannot be imported into another.

Squarespace against a managed, custom-coded roofing site
Read the left column first. Where the other option is genuinely better, the row says so.

| Articles | You write them | Two or three researched, sourced articles a week |
| Ongoing changes | You, in the editor | 5 revisions a month of any size, done in 2 to 5 working days |

| Support for custom work | Explicitly not covered for custom code | It is the service |
Their case
When Squarespace is the right answer
It is a good product and there are roofing companies it suits well.
- Appearance is the main gap. If your current site is the problem and your coverage area is small, Squarespace closes that gap quickly and cheaply.
- You want to control the site yourself and you have the taste and the time to do it.
- You are a specialist with a portfolio to show, metal or slate or historic work, and the gallery-led templates suit that material.
- Your business is genuinely five or six pages. Do not buy thirty pages you will never fill.
Our case
When the managed site is the better trade
Structure, publishing and accountability, in that order.
- Your coverage area means the site needs to be twenty or thirty pages to be honest about where you work.
- You want structured data, technical search work and weekly publishing handled without touching a code injection field that your platform will not support.
- You want the performance commitment in writing because ad spend depends on it.
- You want the site to be somebody's job rather than everybody's good intention.
If you stay on Squarespace, do these three things
This is genuinely an either-or choice, so here is the version that helps you even if you never become a client.
- 1Build a real page for each service instead of one services page with five headings. It is the single highest-value change available to you.
- 2Add a page for each town you actually cover, with something genuinely local on each. Not one word swapped.
- 3Publish something every month, even briefly. A site that never changes gives a search engine no reason to come back.
From roofing companies we have built for
Emma Stanton
Customer care coordinator, leisure center roofing contractor
The part I rate most highly is the form, not the visuals. Every submission arrives with building use, roof type and site location filled in, which used to take us a second email to obtain. The first message is usually enough to act on now.
Inquiry form and response workflow for commercial roof assessments
Ashleigh Sanderson
Scheduling supervisor, single-ply membrane roofing installer
I tested the commercial roof assessments page on my own phone before we approved anything. Key information comes first and the contact option is clearly labeled. The days of talking customers through the menu are over.
Mobile navigation and page layout for commercial roof assessments
Andrea Copperfield
Survey bookings administrator, warehouse roofing and cladding contractor
Getting the commercial roof assessments wording right mattered more to us than any visual choice. It explains what an inquiry achieves and is honest about what still needs a proper discussion. Customers arrive with realistic expectations, which changes the whole tone of the first call.

Moving off Squarespace
- Send us the site address. We list every public URL rather than relying on the partial export.
- We agree the page plan at onboarding and write the pages that should have existed all along.
- Every old URL is permanently redirected to its new equivalent before launch, so the pages you already rank for keep their signals.
- You point the domain when you are satisfied. Cancel the Squarespace plan after that, not before.
Questions about Squarespace and a managed site
Can I export my whole site from Squarespace?
Not entirely. Squarespace states that many features depend on its own JavaScript and CSS and will not export, and specifically names several page types, custom CSS and style settings among what does not come out. It also states that content exported from one Squarespace site cannot be imported into another.
Can I add schema markup on Squarespace?
Through code injection, which Squarespace documents as available from its Core tier upward. Worth knowing before you rely on it: Squarespace also states that its support team cannot help you add custom code or fix problems it causes.
Is Squarespace fast enough for a roofing site?
It is adequate for most visitors on a good connection. Squarespace publishes no performance commitment, which is the practical difference: we put 90+ PageSpeed in the terms and fix it free if a page we control drops below it.
Squarespace is much cheaper. Why would I pay more?
Because the two prices buy different things. One is software you operate; the other is a finished site plus a team operating it, publishing to it and guaranteeing it every month. If you will do the work yourself, Squarespace is better value and we will say so.
Will my new site look as good?
It will look like your business rather than like a well-chosen template, and design changes after launch are revisions with five included a month. If design is the only thing you want fixed, Squarespace is the cheaper route and we would rather tell you that.
What about my Squarespace blog?
Posts worth keeping are migrated and redirected. Squarespace exports one blog page at most, so where you have several we rebuild from the live pages rather than the export file.
Do you charge for the migration?
No. Mapping your URLs and setting the redirects is part of every build, not an add-on. The only fee is the plan and the one-time build fee, and the build fee is invoiced after launch.
Can I keep my domain?
Yes. If it is registered with Squarespace you can leave it there and point it at the new site, or transfer it. Either way it stays in your name.
