GoDaddy website builder or a managed roofing site: what the cheapest route actually buys
GoDaddy, now fronted by its Airo AI builder, will get a roofing company from nothing to a live site with a domain and hosting faster and cheaper than anything else in this comparison, and it will generate the first draft from a prompt. What it will not do is decide that your business needs a page for each of nine towns, write those pages, publish anything afterwards, or be accountable for the result. For a great many roofing companies the GoDaddy site is the one already sitting there, unchanged, since the domain was bought.
Why so many roofers already have one
The domain and the site are sold in the same checkout. A roofing company registers the domain, is offered a website for a few dollars more, says yes, spends an afternoon on it, and it goes live. That is a perfectly rational sequence and it explains why this is the single most common site we are asked to replace.
What the AI builder does and does not change
GoDaddy describes Airo as generating a website, pages, databases and logic from a few prompts with no coding required, on GoDaddy hosting with a custom domain. That genuinely removes the blank-page problem. It does not remove the structure problem, because a prompt produces a site about roofing, not a site about the eleven specific towns your crews drive to and the five services you actually sell.
The constraint most people meet later
The AI work is metered in monthly credits that differ by plan, and on the older Websites and Marketing product custom code is section-level only, added through an HTML section rather than site-wide. Those limits are fine while you are producing a brochure and become awkward the moment you want structured data on every page or a genuinely custom form.
What the GoDaddy website builder publishes about itself
Every line below was read on their own site or documentation on the date shown. We do not publish a competitor fact we cannot point at.
GoDaddy describes its Airo AI Builder as generating a website, web app, pages, databases and logic from a few prompts with no coding required, riding on GoDaddy custom domains, built-in hosting and security, and publishes an uptime claim of 99.9 percent.

On the Websites and Marketing product, GoDaddy documents custom HTML, CSS and JavaScript as something added to sections of a site through an HTML section, with only a short list of specific services addable globally in settings.

Their case
When GoDaddy is genuinely the right call
There is no shame in the cheap option when it is the correct one.
- You have no site at all and need something credible before next week. Anything live beats a domain pointing at nothing.
- The business is brand new and every dollar is going into a truck, a ladder and insurance. Spend it there.
- You already have a GoDaddy domain and want the simplest possible path, with one bill and one login.
- You want to be able to download the code later, which GoDaddy says you can with Airo. That is a fair point in its favour and most builders do not offer it.
Our case
When the cheap site becomes the expensive one
A site that produces no enquiries is not cheap, it is just inexpensive.
- You are established, covering several towns, and losing local searches to directories because you have no page for any of those towns.
- You run ads and every slow page is spend converted into a back button.
- Nobody at your company has touched the site since it went live, and everybody privately knows it.
- You want the site, the content and the AI receptionist as one accountable service rather than three things you have to remember.
If you are staying put for now
Plenty of roofing companies should stay where they are for another season. Here is what to do in the meantime so the move is easy when you make it.
- 1Keep the domain in your own name and make sure you can log in to the registrar. This is the single most common thing that goes wrong later.
- 2Add a real page for each service, even a short one. It is the highest-value hour you can spend in any builder.
- 3Write down the towns you actually cover. That list is the first thing we ask for and the thing most sites are missing.
- 4Do not buy add-ons you will not use. The upgrade that matters is structure, and structure is free to plan.
From roofing companies we have built for
Ashleigh Sanderson
Scheduling supervisor, single-ply membrane roofing installer
I tested the commercial roof assessments page on my own phone before we approved anything. Key information comes first and the contact option is clearly labeled. The days of talking customers through the menu are over.
Mobile navigation and page layout for commercial roof assessments
Andrea Copperfield
Survey bookings administrator, warehouse roofing and cladding contractor
Getting the commercial roof assessments wording right mattered more to us than any visual choice. It explains what an inquiry achieves and is honest about what still needs a proper discussion. Customers arrive with realistic expectations, which changes the whole tone of the first call.
Service scope and expectations for commercial roof assessments
Pooja Patil
Commercial contracts coordinator, commercial flat roofing contractor
We have more than one contact point, and the old commercial roof assessments page never said which applied where. The visitor picks their location once, and it follows the message all the way to the reply. Simpler for visitors, and much simpler for whoever covers the phone.

Moving off GoDaddy
- You keep the domain. It can stay registered with GoDaddy and simply point at the new site, or we can handle a transfer.
- We list every public URL on the current site and agree with you what is worth carrying over.
- The new site is built and every old URL is permanently redirected before the domain is pointed.
- Cancel the builder plan once the new site is live and you are satisfied, not before.
Questions about the GoDaddy website builder and a managed site
Is the GoDaddy website builder bad?
No, and calling it bad would be lazy. It is a cheap, fast tool that does what it says. It is a poor fit when a roofing company needs thirty structured pages, weekly publishing and somebody else accountable for all of it, because none of those are things a builder does.
Can I keep my GoDaddy domain if I move?
Yes. It stays in your name and can either remain registered with GoDaddy and point at the new site, or be transferred. Either way nothing changes for people who already know your address.
Do I own the code GoDaddy generates?
GoDaddy states that with its Airo builder you can download your code at any time and that the code is yours to keep. That is genuinely a point in its favour and worth knowing before you compare it with builders that do not allow it.
What are AI credits and do they run out?
GoDaddy meters AI work in monthly credits that differ by plan, while stating that editing text and images does not use credits. It is worth checking your plan allowance against how much you intend to regenerate.
Why is my GoDaddy site not showing up on Google?
Usually because there is nothing specific for a search engine to match. One page mentioning roofing does not compete with a page about roof repair in your town. The fix is structure, whether you do it there or with us.
Can you make my existing GoDaddy site faster?
Not on that platform, because we cannot control the stack it renders on. What we do is rebuild it custom coded on ours, where the 90+ PageSpeed commitment is something we can actually stand behind.
Will I lose anything by moving?
Not if the migration is done properly. Every existing URL is mapped and permanently redirected, and the content worth keeping is carried over. We will also tell you honestly which pages are doing nothing.
I only bought the domain from GoDaddy. Does that matter?
Not at all. Keep it there and point it, or transfer it, whichever you prefer. We include a free domain on every plan, but if you already have one with your business name on it, that one stays.
