GoHighLevel AI Studio, AI Employee, and the AI Engine on a roofing website

HighLevel currently groups its AI under AI Employee, and AI Studio is one component inside it: a builder that generates pages and interactive experiences from natural-language prompts. The AI Engine on our plans is a different job, a receptionist that answers calls, site chat and SMS for a roofing company, takes job details and books the appointment. If you already run AI Employee for CRM automation, you are not buying the same thing twice.

What HighLevel actually calls things today

Naming in this space moves fast, so here is what HighLevel itself publishes rather than what a blog post says. AI Employee is the bundle. Inside it sit Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI, Content AI, Ask AI and AI Studio. AI Studio is the newest piece, described as an AI-powered builder that creates websites, landing pages and other interactive experiences from natural-language prompts, and it is currently delivered through Labs.

What the AI Engine on our plans does

On the Elevation and Structural plans an AI receptionist answers calls, site chat and SMS, plus Messenger and Instagram where those are connected. It describes your services and pricing structure in general terms, takes the caller details, and either books the appointment or hands the caller to a person. It never estimates a job, never diagnoses roof damage and never gives roofing advice, and you review every script before launch.

The distinction that matters for a roofing company

Ours is aimed at the missed call. A roofing company loses jobs at 6pm on a Friday when the crew is on a roof and nobody picks up. HighLevel AI is aimed at what happens after a lead is already in the CRM: the follow-up, the content, the review requests, the automation. Those are adjacent problems, not the same one.

Their case

When HighLevel AI is the better fit

We sell GoHighLevel services too, so this is not a grudging concession.

  • You want AI running your follow-up sequences, review requests and pipeline nudges, which is CRM work and belongs in the CRM.
  • You run several locations or brands and want one AI configuration across all of them inside one platform.
  • You want to generate campaign pages quickly from a prompt and iterate on them yourself, which is exactly what AI Studio is for.
  • You prefer usage-based pricing you can watch by the dollar rather than a fee inside a service plan.

Our case

When the AI Engine on the site is the better fit

This is about who is accountable for it working on the day a storm hits.

  • You want the missed call solved specifically, with a receptionist trained on your services and your coverage area.
  • You do not want to configure, script, test or maintain any of it. We do the setup, file the carrier registration and test it before launch.
  • You need hard guardrails because you are a licensed trade: no estimate, no damage assessment, no advice, in writing.
  • You want the AI and the website to be the same vendor, so there is nobody to point at when a lead goes missing between them.
Not always either-or

Running both is a normal outcome

These sit at different points in the same journey and we see plenty of roofing companies use both without duplication. The site AI catches the enquiry; your HighLevel AI works it once it is in the pipeline.

From roofing companies we have built for

  • Andrea Copperfield

Survey bookings administrator, warehouse roofing and cladding contractor

Getting the commercial roof assessments wording right mattered more to us than any visual choice. It explains what an inquiry achieves and is honest about what still needs a proper discussion. Customers arrive with realistic expectations, which changes the whole tone of the first call.

    Manchester, New Hampshire

Service scope and expectations for commercial roof assessments

  • Sheila Crawley

Works coordinator, agricultural building roofing firm

Requests to change the commercial roof assessments page used to travel by hallway conversation. The request format is short and explicit, and the preview shows exactly what will change. The site finally says what we approved, not someone's best guess at it.

    Columbia, South Carolina

Content approvals and change requests for commercial roof assessments

  • Ruth Bellamy

Project administrator, green roof installation contractor

I judge a project by what happens after launch, and the commercial roof assessments handover passed. It covers who to contact, how to request a change and what to check after publication. It has already earned its keep during one absence and one staff change.

The practical part

If you want the AI Engine added

  1. Pick a plan that carries it. It is included on Elevation and Structural, not on Draft.
  2. At onboarding, tell us what the agent must never say. We write the scripts and you approve them before anything goes live.
  3. We file the A2P 10DLC carrier registration on your behalf so SMS works at volume. Any carrier fee is passed through at cost.
  4. We connect the conversation output to your CRM and test it end to end before launch.

Questions about GoHighLevel AI Studio and AI Employee and a managed site

Is AI Studio the same thing as AI Employee?

No. HighLevel publishes AI Employee as the bundle and AI Studio as one component inside it, alongside Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI, Content AI and Ask AI. AI Studio specifically is the natural-language builder for pages and interactive experiences.

What does AI Studio cost?

HighLevel publishes it as usage-based rather than a flat fee, stating that the cost of a session varies with complexity and the number of AI operations, and giving example session costs instead of a plan price. We are not going to quote a monthly figure that HighLevel does not publish.

Will your AI receptionist quote a roof?

No, and that is deliberate. It describes your services and pricing structure at a general level, takes the details of the job and books the appointment or hands over to a person. It never estimates, never diagnoses damage and never gives roofing advice.

Do I need both?

Not necessarily. If you already run AI Employee and it is answering your calls the way you want, the overlap is real and you may only want the website. If your problem is specifically the missed call and nobody is going to configure anything, the AI Engine is the one that needs no work from you.

Does the AI cost extra on your plans?

The plan fee for the two AI plans already covers the receptionist and chat setup. Usage, meaning the actual volume of calls, messages and minutes, is billed monthly in arrears at what our providers charge us with no markup, so a quiet month costs less than a storm month.

What is A2P 10DLC and do I have to do it?

It is the carrier registration a business needs before sending text messages at volume in the US. We file it on your behalf as part of setting up the AI Engine, and any carrier fee is passed through at cost.

Can the AI book straight into my calendar?

Yes. It books the appointment into the calendar you tell us to use, including a GoHighLevel calendar, and the booking plus the conversation summary land in your CRM.

What happens when the AI cannot help?

It hands the caller to your team rather than improvising. Anything specific to a particular roof, a claim or a price goes to a person, with the details already captured so nobody has to start the conversation again.

Can I listen to what it said?

Every conversation that needs a person is routed to your CRM with a call-analysis summary, so your team knows what was discussed before they call back.
